It is our pleasure to announce the new “Ecology of plant-animal interactions in the tropics” OTS course. This course presents a unique opportunity for studying animal and plants interactions based on chemical ecology and lectured by world-wide experts in the subject such as Anurag Agrawal, Rodolfo Dirzo, Andre Kessler, Robert Raguso and Jennifer Thaler. Fundacion BioDiversa Colombia invites students and non-students to contribute to Colombian biodiversity conservation by carrying out volunteer work or academic internships in the administrative field of the Foundation. Possible work areas will depend on the profile and the interest of the applicants. You can even contribute from a foreign country in expanding our conservation network. The initial actions towards the conservation of three species of endangered river turtles in the Colombian Amazonia 2008 program successfully achieved its second and last phase. In it, the monitoring of the community turtle conservation beach continued until all the little turtles hatched from the nests and arrived to the Amazon river. The monitoring was held by members of the Curuinsi Huasi Indigenous Association, young people from the Nuevo Jardin indigenous community, one FBC researcher and two university volunteers. The results of these monitoring will be soon available. The second phase also included a wider promotion of the Program among the area, through visits to the neighbor communities and regional radio and television interviews. In this moment the fund raising phase for the continuation of the program in 2009, in which four indigenous communities of Peru and Colombia will be involved. Read more advances on the Program here |

The initial actions towards the conservation of three species of endangered river turtles in the Colombian Amazonia 2008 program achieved with success its first phase, which consisted in the execution of the environmental education pilot program and the initiation of the nests monitoring pilot program. In this first phase, 6 volunteers from Bogota and Medellin, 2 grade students and 2 researchers. Presently the monitoring program in the community conservation beach are taking place. Educational material is being prepared to be given to the community in mid-August.

Opening closed
The researcher for the Community-based conservation program of river turtles by indigenous Peruvian and Colombian communities of the Amazon River, 2009-2010 has already been selected: biologist Natalia Gallego became part of our working group. We were very glad for recieving so many applications.Thanks a lot to all the participants!
