FLYING AND TERRESTRIAL
MAMMALS OF COLOMBIA
FIELDGUIDE

Alba Lucía Morales-Jiménez, Francisco Sánchez, Katja Poveda & Alberto Cadena

First edition
2004

Language: Spanish

Colombia is considered as one of the five most biodiverse countries in mammals in the world; the presence of 435 species has been proved and surely this number will be increased in the coming years. This book was written to reach a wide public, and therefore includes texts, pictures and illustrations. In this guide you can find information on 114 species of terrestrial and flying Colombian mammals; it contains data of their natural history, distribution, degree of threat and if they have commercialisation control.

MACROFUNGI
OF THE MIDDLE CAQUETÁ REGION – COLOMBIA

Ana Esperanza Franco-Molano, Aída Marcela Vasco-Palacios, Carlos Alberto López-Quintero & Teun Boekhout

Language: Spanish

"In Colombia, studies on macrofungi are scarce, and of the few that exist generaly emphasiseon taxonomic aspects, without highlighting importance and meaning of these organisms to the human groups in their surrounding; moreover, they generally do not indicate their role in the ecological context, resulting in a simple contribution to the cathalogs.
Such limitation justifies the value of this work as a valuable contribution the knowledge of biodiversity and importance of macrofungi in our field. Besides presenting taxonomic information of 96 species in this area of the Amazonia, the authors highlight their ethnic importance and care to be taken due to toxic or poisonous properties of some of them; this aims to a better knowledge and understanding of the relationship between this organisms, the environment and the communities in which sourroundings they grow". Fragment of the prologue by Ramiro Fonnegra Gómez, Dr. Cs. chief of the Herbarium section. Universidad de Antioquia. Translation F. Arbeláez.

IMPACT OF THE FISHING INDUSTRY ON THE FISHING EAGLE (Pandion haliaetus) POPULATIONS IN LATIN AMERICA

Hugo Fernando López-Arévalo, Alba Lucía Morales-Jiménez y Martha María Carmona (Eds.)

First edition
2003

Language: Spanish

This publication was made by the Asociación Latinoamericana de Conservación y Manejo de Vida Silvestre (ALCOM), with the collaboration of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS). It shows the growing conflict between the fishing eagle and the fishing industry, which is subject to control hunting. The background of this conflict is presented, together with general information on the eagle and on the fishing industry in Latin America, specific information on the studies countries focusing on the production methods that interact with the biological characteristics of the species.
