Catalina Arias Agudelo

Biologist - Tropical Ecology

catalinaa (at) fundacionbiodiversa.org

I am a biologist with an anthropology option from Los Andes University of Colombia and I have a master's degree in tropical ecology from the University of Amsterdam. During my undergraduate thesis and follow jobs I got experience working on ethnobotany and economic botany projects. Subsequently, during my masters I developed two research projects: the first one related to the modeling of the habitat and population viability of a threatened European plant (Arnica Montana); the second one was on landscape connectivity and genetic structure of the Neotropical oak (Quercus humboldtii Bonpl.). This second research is still in process as part of the Mapforgen project: “Assessing conservation status of populations and genetic resources of 100 woody native species prioritized of a socio-economic important area (financed by INIA - Spain)”. Currently, working as a consultant at the Institute of Biological Resources “Alexander von Humboldt”, I have been supporting geographic analyses and ecological modeling related with Colombian biodiversity and wild population information management for decision making processes. I have particular interest in developing projects related to research and monitoring wildlife populations, adaptation strategies to climate change, valuation of environmental services using landscape analysis tools, and in ecological economics.
