Jorjany Botero-Orrego is a biologist from the University of Antioquia, producer, professional tour guide and nature illustrator.
Her love for birds and natural history began 16 years ago during her undergraduate studies. She has participated in various research projects that addressed studies of vocal ethology, phylogeography, geographic distribution, and habitat use of subtropical wet forest birds. As an associate researcher at Fundacion Biodiversa Colombia (FBC), she led the ornithological component of the “Conservation Strategy for the Blue-billed Curasow – Crax alberti” at the Barbacoas wetlands along the middle Magdalena river valley in Antioquia during three years.
She has served as a bird specialist environmental consultant in Peru and Colombia. She held the position of executive director of the Antioquian Ornithological Society (SAO) where she founded, directed and produced the Medellin Bird Festival and created the city brand “Medellín Capital Mundial de las Aves”, achieving to manage it as a project of municipal agreement through the Medellín Council. She has worked as a professor and researcher in areas related to biology, community and nature tourism, and natural heritage.
She is the founder and director of Biophilia, an open innovation platform that integrates science, art, green-marketing and immersive experiences to promote environmental culture and biodiversity conservation.
She is the author of the Bird Sound Guide of the Alto de San Miguel Wildlife Refuge.

Su amor por las aves y la historia natural comenzó hace 16 años durante su carrera académica. Participó en diversos proyectos de investigación que abordaron estudios de etología vocal, filogeografía, distribución geográfica y uso de hábitat de aves de bosques húmedos subtropicales. Como investigadora asociada de la Fundación Biodiversa Colombia lideró durante tres años el componente ornitológico de la “Estrategia de conservación para el Paujil de Pico Azul, Crax alberti en el Complejo Cenagoso Barbacoas -Antioquia.
Se ha desempeñado como Consultora Ambiental especialista en Aves en Perú y Colombia. Ocupó el cargo de Directora Ejecutiva en la Sociedad Antioqueña de Ornitología (SAO) donde fundó, dirigió y produjo el Festival de las Aves de Medellín y creó la marca de ciudad “Medellín Capital Mundial de las Aves”, logrando gestionarlo como un proyecto de acuerdo municipal a través del Concejo de Medellín. Ha trabajado como docente de cátedra e investigadora en áreas afines a la biología, el turismo comunitario y de naturaleza, y el patrimonio natural.
Es la fundadora y directora de Biophilia, una plataforma de innovación abierta que integra la ciencia, el arte, el green-marketing y las experiencias de inmersión para promover cultura ambiental y conservación de la biodiversidad.
Es autora de la Guía Sonora de las Aves del Refugio de Vida Silvestre Alto de San Miguel.
